Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM)

CMMs use a contact stylus to probe the surface of a part. Contact styli enable acquisition of data in areas where imaging and non-contact sensing are difficult such as inside bores, side walls and undercut surfaces.

Discrete point probing is used for best accuracy while continuous scanning is used for quickly acquiring high density data sets.
